Rozšiřována byla zejména knihami po zemřelých členech konventu. Nejvýznamnější akvizici představovala sbírka knih vztahujících se k maltézskému řádu vybudovaná Franzem Paulem von Smitmer. Knihovna byla relativně malá a v roce 1870 ji tvořilo 4578 svazků. Teprve v této době byly zaváděny signatury a vznikal první skutečný knihovní katalog. |9 cze | |
| 520 | 3 | 9 | |a The Medieval commandery of the Order of the Hospitallers in Prague ceased to exist at the beginning of the Hussite Revolution. Its library was gone. The convent at the Church of Our Lady beneath the Chain was not restored until the beginning of the 1830s by prior Franciscus Taufer, who also founded its library. It was equipped with books from the archives of the Grand Priory of Bohemia and probably from the local parish library. The founder also donated his own books to it. The library was to serve the convent members in the first place to prepare for preaching. In 1752 it contained 1 000 volumes. The library was further expanding mainly by acquiring the books of the deceased members of the convent. Those of Joannes Raymund, Franciscus Wilhelm, Josephus Kolenatý and Antonius Sychrovský are worth mentioning from the period until the end of the 1860s. The most important addition, however, was the collection of melitensia of the conventual chaplain and commander Franciscus Paulus de Smitmer. New titles were purchased only seldom due to the lack of financial resources. The conventual library was therefore rather small. In 1870 it contained 4578 volumes. In the first half of the 19th century, volumes were temporarily detached from the conventual library and made a reference library for novices and clerics, which in 1853 contained 866 volumes. Brief library rules has been part of the German statute of the convent since 1740. The prior appointed one of the brothers to be a librarian who was to organize, write and administer the books. Librarians did not pay much attention to the library due to lack of time. It was not until the end of the 1860s that Ferdinandus Warter created a system of signatures and a regular library catalogue began to be kept. The librarian should record the loans to the members of the convent and, upon expiry of the specified loan period, request their return and place them back to the library. |9 eng |
